Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, in America's eyes, into the category of child prodigy. It was an innate characteristic for a girl who was of Irish heritage, who was nurtured in her early years by talented relatives and parents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin in Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion of "The Shamrock Rovers," famous Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen excelled at sports and enjoyed playing rough sports. The combination of this passion and her gift to perform was impressive. She took home almost all Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
